Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

TIME: 8:45AM
DATE: 9/29/17

Friday, Sept. 29th is our first Eucharistic Adoration. As a school we attend Adoration about 4 times a year. What is Eucharistic Adoration? Catholics believe that during the Mass, the priest speaks these words as he holds the communion host, "...He took bread and gave you thanks. He broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take this all of you, and eat it: this is my body which will be given up for you". When the priest says "this my body." it is at that instant when, through the miracle of transubstantiation, the bread and wine truly become the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus. It is His true Presence in the form of bread and wine. It is Christ.

Perpetual Adoration is when the priest takes a consecrated host, such as the one described above, and places it in a monstrance, an ornate receptacle that holds and displays the consecrated host. The monstrance is then placed in front of the tabernacle or on the altar of the church or chapel for adoration. What do you actually do during adoration? During our St. Philomena Adoration services, our school community comes together in the church to “adore” Our Lord, exposed in the monstrance. We pray, sing, and listen to Father Woodland read a scripture and speak to us about the importance of the real presence of Jesus in our lives. We also sit and kneel in silence, simply keeping Jesus company and listening to His voice in our hearts, just as we would do with a dear friend. This is a prayerful and powerful opportunity for our students and staff! As parents, you are invited and welcome to join us at any and all of these services. You may be surprised by the blessings and graces that you will receive from spending time with Jesus during this special time with Him, truly present in the Holy Eucharist!

Eucharistic Adoration is Friday, Sept. 29th at 8:45 AM, is being hosted by the 8th grade students, and we hope you can join us.
