CYO Soccer - Important Information

For K-3rd grade students

TIME: 4:00pm
DATE: 2/24/21

Hello Kinder, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade & 3rd Grade St. Phil Families,

My apologies for the lengthy email but it gives you ALL the information you need to make a decision.

CYO needs to gauge if there will be enough people interested in playing soccer during the COVID-19 before we open registration.

My name is Amy McDonough and I am the volunteer CYO Athletic Director for St. Philomena. I am writing today to see who would be interested in playing CYO Micro/Mini Soccer starting in April? This email is to inquire if there are enough families who are interested in playing before we commit to the Archdiocese & roll out registration in March. ACTION ITEM: I am asking you to please email me back by this FRIDAY 2/26 and let me know if your son or daughter would be interested in playing.

Due to COVID-19 and the Healthy WA Roadmap to Recovery please read on for the new guidelines from the government and new policies from the Archdiocese in order to play starting in April. Current restrictions from the governor’s office require all participants to play in masks. Coaches, referees, and spectators are also required to wear masks, and socially distance from anyone outside of their household. This will be monitored by the team’s volunteer COVID Safety Coordinator on site, and any concerns around mask wearing or social distancing may result in a team being removed from competition

  • Kindergarten and 1st Grade soccer is: 4 vs. 4 coed.
  • 2nd and 3rd Grade are single gender (Boys teams and Girls teams) and play 6 vs. 6.
  • Games will begin Saturday April 17th with the season ending June 5th (7 games – no games Memorial Day Weekend)
  • Practice begins after Spring Break the week of April 12th
  • Cost: $50.00 Registration (Discounted Rate) & $10.00 Jersey

COACHES REQUIRED TRAINING

CYO is a volunteer program so we would need a parent volunteer to coach each team

  • Safe Environment Training through Virtus Online must be complete in order to coach
  • Play Like a Champion Today training provided through the Archdiocese must be taken in order to coach
  • If there are multiple parents who want to coach, the first parent who contacts me would get the first opportunity to coach.

NEW THIS SEASON

(2) COVID Safety Coordinators Required per Team (mandatory)

CYO is a volunteer program so we would need (2) parents to volunteer per team to be the COVID Safety Coordinators

  • Each practice/game in CYO sports will require an on-site COVID Safety Coordinator.
  • Training is provided by the Archdiocese to certify COVID Safety Coordinators.
  • This should not be the coach (as they are focused on coaching) and these volunteers will need to step up for each team, get trained, and be available to ensure COVID Safety protocols are followed at practices and games.
  • COVID protocols will include a “Check In” which includes a questionnaire for athletes and spectators. This “Check In” can be administered using the Team Sideline mobile app, if parents bring their phone and scan a QR code provided on-site by the COVID Safety Coordinator.

NEW THIS SEASON

Parent Like a Champion Workshop

This is a new mandatory workshop that the Archdiocese is asking one parent of each athlete to take from the Archdiocese in order for your child to participate in the CYO sport.

  • Parents will engage in a 90 minute Zoom webinar-style meeting and receive the PDF version of the Parent Resource Manual
  • A parent who signs up for a workshop must attend the entire workshop to receive credit for attending.
  • The requirement is that at least one parent/guardian complete the workshop before registrations will be accepted in CYO Athletics for their athlete.
  • Completing the workshop is a one-time thing, and there are no requirements for any sort of refresher course.
  • NOTE: anyone who has completed the Play Like A Champion Today coaches training is not required to also attend the Parent workshop.

ACTION ITEM: I am asking you to please email me back by this FRIDAY 2/26 and let me know if your son or daughter would be interested in playing. This is not a commitment, just a gauge to see if we would have enough kids per grade to field a team.
